Meowwww!

This cat was made from a 1/2 sheet cake. Not much had to be cut away as you can see. Depth was added in layers, first back feet, then front legs and feet, then head. More dimension was added with shadowing via airbrush. I was really happy with the way this turned out.

Cookie Bouquet Foray

Image

This is my most recent attempt at a cookie bouquet. I made this for my writing group. It went over well. I was quite happy with the results, although I do think I’ll tweak the recipe just a bit. It was delicious but could use a little adjustment on the texture. I will definitely stick with it. I really enjoyed making this. I don’t usually do much decorating at home (8 hours of decorating a day is usually enough for me…lol) but since this was something we don’t do at work, It was quite fun and challenging.

An oldie but goodie.

This is my rendition of Blue. I made this cake for my son, many long years ago. He’s 20 now!

I don’t think he’d want a cake like this anymore…LOL.

Arrrr…shiver me timbers!

Ahoy Matey!

This was a fun cake to make. It really wasn’t that hard either…just a little time consuming. It looks a bit unfinished because there are no masts or sails. The customer had their own accessories that they added after they got it home. They were really nice people and it was great to make this for them. They even came back and gave me a picture of the “finished” product (although I’m not sure what I did with it!)

Easter Chick Cookies

Since it won’t be long till Easter is here, I thought I’d share something for the occasion. This is a series of pictures showing the progression of an Easter chick on a base of grass. It’s done on a 5″ sugar cookie.

1. First the grass. I prefer to use a large grass tip. Bigger holes and a lot less work.

2. The chick body. I use a #10 piping tube. It’s all in the pressure. You gotta squeeze to make it big.

3. The tail. For this you can use a smaller piping tube, a #6 or #8, but I just use the #10. I try to get by with as few bags as possible. Just ease up on the pressure.

4. The wings. Like the body, use a bit more pressure, then pull back to make the tips. I use a bit of a sweeping motion to give the wing a curve.

5. The head. Just a smaller version of the body.

6. Eyes and beak. Just black icing piped on using a #2 or #3 tip and the beak is orange icing, using a leaf tip. I added a couple of easter egg rings to this cookie but jellybeans work well too.

I’m a PRINCESS!

I’m a Princess!

NOT!

I’m not usually fond of doing “girly” cakes, but this one was actually fun. I would have preferred to use different colors, pink and purple turn my stomach, but hey…that’s what the customer wanted.

And the customer is always right…right?

Wedding cakes, for gosh sakes!

One of the many wedding cakes that I do.

I thought this one was especially beautiful (no not just because I’m the one that did it…lol) because of the scroll work.  I didn’t have anything to go by except a design on a piece of paper. I had to free-hand it all and just hope it looked ok. I think it went well.

Beaver cake

An oldie but goodie!

This was a groom’s cake. The groom’s last name was….Beaver! The bride-to-be came in with a little figurine of a beaver and this is what came of it. They loved it. I have to say, I thought it turned out rather well myself.

Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to the world of cake decorating! This is a place dedicated to showing off wonderful works of edible art. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I, and my fellow creators, enjoy showing them off.

More to come…
